Signature moves for judgment on the pleadings on Kohler's design patent infringement claims, arguing that: 1) at least some of the accused products are plainly dissimilar from the claimed designs; and 2) at least some of the accused products were sold or offered for sale long before Kohler applied for at least some of the design patents-in-suit:

It's taken a month, but I now have a new hydraulic winch for my tractor working. This should make hauling logs out of my wood so much easier!

I think this is the "final" version of the throughhole Arduino. Changed the resistors to 1/4W, moved everything around a bit to make more room for the ICSP port. Should be fairly easy to solder and might not catch fire. #electronics #arduino

Kuzko & Kronk on Instagram: "And now the debut of an exciting new talent Kuzko and Kronk have been working on behind the scenes…. 🏎️ That’s right: These two boys are going for their driver’s license! Has anyone here read about the study from the University of Richmond about how enriched environments affect stress responses? 🤔 In it, scientists taught rats to drive tiny cars, and found the experience of learning and acquiring mastery over a new skill decreased their stress hormones. 🧠☺️ Kuzko and Kronk are definitely happy, curious boys and lifelong learners… but we had no idea they’d get the same opportunity to challenge themselves until my mechanically-gifted dad surprised us with two little cars for them that he’d built himself!! 🤩 The controls are pretty straightforward: middle pedal goes forward, left pedal turns the car left, right pedal turns it right. 🚘 It really didn’t take Kuzko and Kronk long to experiment with their new hot rods. At first we rewarded them for any interaction with the buttons. 🙌 Then, as they began to make associations with what each button did, we slowly increased the threshold of accuracy required before they got their treat. Eventually, they came to understand their task was to manoeuvre the car so that the portholes in the windshield aligned with wherever we held a delicious rice puff. 🧭 After only a couple months of 5-10 minute lessons each day, we’ve been blown away by how skilled Kuzko and Kronk have become at accurately turning and accelerating their cars! True to the study, they do seem to enjoy their nightly practice. I wrote to the UK Council for Psychotherapy after they withdrew from the Coalition Against Conversion Therapy... [1/2]

I am writing to you with extreme concern about UKCP’s decision to pull out of the Memorandum of Understanding on Conversion Therapy and the Coalition Against Conversion Therapy. As a lesbian who has been offered conversion therapy twice, once by a psychiatrist, once by a church leader, it was profoundly damaging to even have these authorities suggest I should do it. I didn’t go ahead with it – either time – but others are less lucky than me in that respect and are even more harmed than I was.
And believe me, I was harmed by the offers. We live in a homophobic and transphobic world and those of us who are LGBTQIA+ are left in no doubt that the world wants us to be straight, to be cisgender. Sometimes we submit to that pressure and people damage us further because we are so desperate to fit in. So desperate to be seen to be acceptable.
It is vital that we are protected from this, whether as children or adults, by joining the 27 countries that have outlawed anti-LGBTQI+ conversion therapy. For an organisation like UKCP that has such authority, an organisation that is clearly made up of stakeholders in this discussion, to back out of their commitment to oppose it, is crushing. More to the point, it’s creating an atmosphere where queer people feel less able to seek help because they do not trust that the professional body for ps…
We already live in a world where LGBTQI+ people are not safe. This is indisputable. What UKCP has done is make the world even less safe for us than it was a few days ago. And those who might really benefit from the help of your members now have even less faith in the reliability and the trustworthiness of your registered clinicians. TIL: A DP cable can carry enough power from one GPU to another to light up the RGB LED on it, and also spin a case fan that's on molex, somehow. So I finished the build, and went to post it. My dumb ass forgot I replaced my monitor DVI cables with DP>DVI. Hooked up what I thought was the monitor and got nothing. Then I realized I had actually connected this PC's GPU to the "new" build GPU 🤣 😬 . Fixed it, still no display. Powered off/on, post, boot device message. whew. …

Black PC case with the Mobo and cooler tower installed. Cooler tower clears the side panel of the PC case by about 4mm, btw. The GPU hasn't been installed yet. There is also a big fan hole in the middle of the case front cause I don't have an extra fan atm. I'll get to it.
The back of the PC case after all the connections have been run and tidied up. Everything is black. There's a pair of SSD carriages in the middle. The back of the case has a popout built into it so it can clear the drives, if they are installed. I haven't bothered, yet. PSU is at the bottom with all the cables tucked in front of it to the left.

Ice is gone.

My >20yo kick drum pedal had a bolt shear off. I went around looking at reviews for what's the new hi-tech awesomeness, because surely after 20 years there's been some major changes, right?
Nope. DW 5000 is still on top (with 9000 being more adjustable in ways that I don't care about, but otherwise the same).

About 22 years I read 1571 user guide and saw the chapter about Burst Command Instruction Set. Intriguing! Obviously parts about MFM parameters were meant primarily for CP/M.
Then I thought - what if I would rewrite GEOS 1571 disk driver to use these commands? Would it be faster or better than BSW speedloader?
I wrote some code, ran into problems and left it abandoned in the repository:

TIL: A DP cable can carry enough power from one GPU to another to light up the RGB LED on it, and also spin a case fan that's on molex, somehow. So I finished the build, and went to post it. My dumb ass forgot I replaced my monitor DVI cables with DP>DVI. Hooked up what I thought was the monitor and got nothing. Then I realized I had actually connected this PC's GPU to the "new" build GPU 🤣 😬 . Fixed it, still no display. Powered off/on, post, boot device message. whew. …

Black PC case with the Mobo and cooler tower installed. Cooler tower clears the side panel of the PC case by about 4mm, btw. The GPU hasn't been installed yet. There is also a big fan hole in the middle of the case front cause I don't have an extra fan atm. I'll get to it.
The back of the PC case after all the connections have been run and tidied up. Everything is black. There's a pair of SSD carriages in the middle. The back of the case has a popout built into it so it can clear the drives, if they are installed. I haven't bothered, yet. PSU is at the bottom with all the cables tucked in front of it to the left.
Front of the finished build after all the components have been installed and wired in. Looks pretty clean if I do say so myself.

Covid reinfection stats, JN.1 - stats geekery
The end-of-year stats even dip into the negative. Negative numbers for protection would mean one infection leaving people _more_ susceptible to the next.
But there weren't enough people in the study to consider that statistically proven. They give a range, like saying "roughly hereabouts", and only one side of the range dips negative.
So in reality, the previous infection could still have left some small level of protection after a year.

Some excitement on a recent #hike when wife & I spotted a #wildcat on the trail: *twice* in ~20mins, each time ~200ft (60m) ahead of us (Pic 1, red arrow). Both times it stayed still watching us, then walked into the woods, curving up its tail.

Alright, attempt number two. Simplified the layout a bit and came to a pretty obvious realization: don't mess with the layout *after* you run the design rules check. The boards came in and were a bit lacking in several areas of connectivity. #electronics #arduino

Stumbled, sick, into the post office as soon as it opened this morning to send away another package to the Spanish honorary consul in Vancouver. I honestly don't know if it's the right stuff or if it'll be rejected. And even if it is right, I don't know that there are enough days left in the month for them to send it back to me and then me send it on to Toronto in time for them to accept us for an appointment in Vancouver.

After 11 months of being here, I decided to do a very small reflection.
When I first arrived, I didn't have any expectations or goals I'd like to achieve. Matter of fact, the main reason I left Twitter is because of all the bots that followed me and how I almost never got any real interaction.
Over time, things got a little rocky here and it seemed as though, personally, I wasn't going to be enjoying it any further at that time and contemplating shutting the instance down completely and just "disappearing".
However, several months on from that, I'm VERY glad I didn't. I like it here and I like having my "own little space" where nobody can tell me what I can and cannot discuss nor what I can and cannot see.
Something I've just recently realized though, is how important a good bit of you have become to me, personally and my Fedi experience would be very lacking without some of you here. What I didn't expect, was getting that same sentiment back when I discussed it with those few of you. I really appreciate knowing that for some of you, I have been consistently a "good" addition to your timelines and everyday online life.
Those types of comments and feelings they give me, keep me here and sane on those wilder days. To each and every one of you that have followed me for so long, through all the craziness, slight drama, wild opinions, and more, THANK YOU.
If I hadn't been almost universally accepted with such open arms and returned the same energy I try to put out, then I doubt I would still be here to this day.
I'm 11 months in and I think I'm ready to "give back" to those few folks that I consider friends and am on the cusps of creating something new and hopefully something good for Fedi as a whole.
I'm going to keep it very limited for specific reasons I'll lay out later. But, this is new ground for me and I have to figure some things out and hopefully not make too many missteps and learn some things along the way.
Thank you Fedi. I wouldn't be who I am right now, without you.

Today's project: getting the previous PC build I was using before the upgrade to current gen parts (other than the GPU which is last gen) encased in that Zalman T7. Gonna go in the "bedroom" so I can move this PC to the "living room". Will be a test bench of sorts, wanna explore some self hosting, media server etc options on this thing just to get myself familiar with the tools etc. Eventually thinking I wanna build a real NAS. Prob start with Deb Server, for simplici…

A large water tank sits inside a trailer. It is semi transparent white plastic with a metal grate around it. There is a large spigot on the bottom and an intake on the top. The trailer has its back gate down. It has low alumnimum sides and deck. It is parked behind the blue Kona EV in the driveway.
The tank has been moved onto a small garden cart immediately behind the trailer. It is quite a bit wider than the cart. It’s tipped slightly to the right.
